Monitoring and Information Program
Welcome
The Monitoring and Information Program website is primarily intended to aid in the development and production of the Tongass National Forest Annual Monitoring Report required by the National Forest Management Act and associated with the Tongass Forest Plan. However, there are many other ongoing and proposed monitoring and information gathering activities that, while not directly necessary for the Forest Plan Monitoring program at this time, are very relevant to the ongoing understanding and management of the Tongass National Forest. Ongoing and proposed monitoring and information gathering activities are addressed in two sections-the Resource Project/Program and Information Needs sections-that are intended to help prioritize and track investment opportunities in new information. The site also includes a 5 Year Evaluation section designed to help track pertinent information and processes in preparation for periodic reviews of the Forest Plan. Each section is introduced below.
The Forest Plan Annual Monitoring Report section includes access to the latest Annual Monitoring Report. This section also includes an archive which includes previous years' annual reports.
The Resource/Project Program section provides an area for each resource group to display monitoring activities and products for the program and associated projects. Access to pertinent reference materials is also provided.
The Information Needs section is organized by resource program and includes a prioritized listing of information needs relative to the Tongass National Forest and Southeast Alaska. Interaction by the Forest Service with other State and Federal agencies and interested partners is reflected in the variety of information needs.
The 5 Year Evaluation section is an extension of the previous 5 Year Review website used to track and document that effort in 2006. The new site will be used to help guide preparation of the next evaluation scheduled for year 2013.
